For the past couple of months, I have been trying to figure out why clients with Comcast email accounts were not receiving my emails.  I did not receive an error message or any kind of undeliverable message.  The emails just vanished into a dark hole.  After searching on the Comcast website under email problems, I found this information:

When I try to email a Comcast.net address, I get a bounce back message containing a 554 error message, which links to this page.  (The problem is that I never got a bounce back message…I just received frustrated phone calls from clients wondering why I hadn’t responded to their email.)

Answer:  You have been blocked from emailing the Comcast network because we have determined that your mail server does not properly identify itself when attempting to connect to the Comcast mail servers.  This process is known as Reverse DNS and associates your mail server’s IP address into a domain name for Comcast to know who is attempting to send email into our network.  Individuals who send spam commonly hide their Reverse DNS to avoid being detected when sending email.

How do I get this resolved?

Your mail server’s IP address is not blocked by Comcast.  As soon as your mail administrator properly configures Reverse DNS on your mail server, you will be able to email the Comcast network again.  When contacting your email administrator, you should include the error message contained in the email that alerted you to this problem.  This error message contains important information to help your email administrator resolve this issue.

If you have your own private email account and are having similar issues, you might want to try this fix.

It was just frustrating that a couple of months ago, clients who had Comcast email addresses stopped receiving my emails. I received no bounce back or undeliverable messages. I thought I was on a spammer list or something. I researched my problem on your website on my own and eventually came across this help topic. My programmer is working on making this change to my email account so I am hoping that we are able to resolve this issue on our own.

I have a comcast email as well for my personal issue that I started having issues with as well. It seems as if it is a crap shoot on whether my emails will get through and I have chatted with customer service a couple times online to try to resolve it. I will email you my most recent chat and you can review to see if you are able to fix the issue?

Thank you for your quick reply! It is nice to know that companies are searching Twitter to make sure their customers are satisfied.

So far, Comcast has not fixed my email problem either. We made the email setting change that I listed below and the problem still persists. Their technical support is looking into it and I hear from them from time to time, but they have not had a solution. I still continue to have issues with emails that do not show up in my Comcast account that I know were sent to my address. There are no error or bounce back messages sent to notify the sender that their message did not go through.

I have an alternate email accont that I use for my business and whenever I try to email any clients that have Comcast emails, it’s a 50/50 shot whether or not they will receive the email. I can send the same exact email multiple times and sometimes it will go through and sometimes it will not? The only email server that I seem to be having issues sending to is Comcast.

I will keep you posted if they are able to fix my issue with my email. In the meantime, if I were you, I would sign up for an email service with another provider.
